The Geisskopf in the Bavarian Forest is used in many ways all year round: as a ski area with toboggan runs in winter and as a hiking paradise and bike park in summer. This is why the new ropeway up the 1,097-meter-high leisure mountain will also be multifunctional. With the decision to procure a 6-seater chairlift from LEITNER, the operators are now sending a clear signal of modernisation after more than 50 years. The new chairlift to the Geisskopf will be a comfortable ascent aid and one that is perfectly tailored to the needs of guests.
The new bottom station with 90-degree entry will be located at the foot of the family run. Sustainably and attractively designed with wood and glass, it blends harmoniously into the surroundings of the ski resort. The chairlift is driven by the gearless, oil-free, quiet and particularly energy-efficient LEITNER DirectDrive. Parking the chairs takes place fully automatically in the station turnaround and on a storage rail. The 6-seater model with maximum functionality has been chosen.
Skiers and tobogganists are transported together
A first is the range of uses of the chairlift for recreational athletes. Special brackets on the backs of the chairs make it possible to transport two toboggans in winter and three bikes per vehicle in summer. In future, several guests and their sports equipment can be carried simultaneously on a 6-seater chair at the Geisskopf. A special guidance system using LED technology helps them to get on board.
In summer, six hikers or three bikers and two hikers can ride at the same time per chair. This shortens queuing times for the mountain bikers. This is a great improvement, because until now they often had to put up with long waiting times. This makes the Geisskopf even more attractive for MTB tours in the Bavarian Forest.
Easy transportation of mountain bikes and toboggans
Taking mountain bikes in summer and toboggans in winter is very easy for guests: the sports equipment is attached to the chair in front and is thus visible to the owners during the entire ride. Due to the slow speed of the lift in the station, the athletes can attach their equipment to the chair themselves and remove it at the top station. This system is being used for the first time on a chairlift in Germany. It enables especially young and less-muscular guests to use the chairlift with bike or toboggan without any problems. The toboggan can be removed in one easy step when getting out.
The new installation replaces a single chairlift built in 1967 and a surface lift built in 1988. In addition to the functional requirements, it also fulfils the desire for fast and safe transport. The lift can transport up to 2,100 people per hour. The previous 14-minute ride will in future be reduced to five minutes, with more comfort and without long queues.
The ropeway sets new impulses for tourism
For the operators, the realisation of the ropeway is far more than just a replacement of old infrastructure. It sets new impulses for value creation in the entire region and will have a positive impact on tourism.
