Sustainable ropeways from LEITNER: Two new retrofit projects in Switzerland

With two new retrofit projects in the Swiss ski resorts of St. Moritz - Corviglia and Arosa Lenzerheide, LEITNER is driving the change towards ecologically sustainable operation in the ropeway industry. These projects involve the modernization of existing installations and the use of existing infrastructure in a resource-saving manner.

“We are convinced that these installations will not only set a milestone in the Swiss ropeway industry, but will also serve as a shining example for future projects.”

- Markus Sigrist, Sales Manager LEITNER Switzerland

St. Moritz - Corviglia: Modernization of the FIS lift

  • Replacing the drive: The 20-year-old direct drive is being replaced by the modern LEITNER DirectDrive. This ensures greater efficiency and lower energy consumption.
  • Increased comfort: Revised bubble chairs with smooth running, wider seats and high backrests.
  • Sustainable cooperation: Regional companies such as Sisag AG supply important components such as the control system.
  • Schedule: The installation and conversion work has been successfully completed, the chairs have already been delivered and there are no more obstacles to the planned launch in mid-October.

Incidentally, the Corviglia ski resort is world-famous - it has already hosted the Winter Olympics twice. The area has a total of 155 kilometers of slopes that extend up to 3000 meters above sea level.

Arosa Lenzerheide: replacement of the “Stätzertäli” 4-seater chairlift

  • Sustainable new installation: a modern 4-seater chairlift replaces the old installation, with existing towers and foundations being reused.
  • Energy efficiency: Installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the top station to generate sustainable energy.
  • Design and technology: New installation in elegant Pininfarina design, equipped with LEITNER DirectDrive and EcoDrive for energy- and cost-efficient operation.
  • Luxury for passengers: Premium EVO chairs offer maximum comfort.
  • Schedule: Completion of the new ropeway is scheduled for the end of October 2024.

The Arosa Lenzerheide ski area is one of the largest in the canton of Graubünden. You can let off steam on 225 kilometers of slopes, stop off at rustic mountain huts and enjoy many hours of sunshine.
