If you wanted to admire the statue of Buddha in Ngong Ping, you used to have to reckon with a journey of several hours. Now, in a ride lasting just twenty minutes, you can travel a distance of 5,784 meters at a speed of seven meters per second. The ropeway links the suburb of Tung Chung near Hong Kong’s international airport to the world famous tourist area in Ngong Ping. The top station is close to the location of one of the largest Buddha statues of its type in Asia. The statue weighs 250 tonnes and is 34 m tall.
