MiniMetrò Perugia
The “linea rossa” is the first MiniMetro worldwide

MiniMetrò Perugia

The center of Perugia, the capital of the Italian province of Umbria, is situated on a hill. This caused the municipal administration to install alternative means of approach from several directions. They decided to open up this center with a track-mounted ropeway. It begins at a large arrival parking lot in the peripheral district of Pian di Massiano before traveling over a new construction zone to the railway station, and then finally climbs the hill to the historic town center through a tunnel. The three kilometer route has five intermediate stations that each have a car arriving every minute. It operates on every day of the year between 7 am and 9.30 pm, transports 3.5 million passengers per year and has a system availability figure of 99.9%. Because of its red rails it is called “linea rossa” and was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel.
